eating for your blood type makes no difference at all.
I read the book and was not impressed by it, nor is there any research that I can find anywhere that supports it.
The book that started all this, "Eat Right 4 Your Type," is not based on good science. Peter D'Adamo used only one consideration, food lectin content and the effects of it on coagulation times on the different blood types in the lab (not in living subjects). Then he spends a lot of time on herbs and supplements, but doesn't determine their lectin content, he only uses his theories, not research.
He states that autoimmune disorders are common, but doesn't tell us how he knows that, nor where they come from.
He states that early blood types adapted to early diets, but this ignores all paleontology which shows that all early people ate whatever they could whenever they could, and that all diets were pretty much the same among early hunter-gatherers.
I'm an O. I should be a meat eater. I'm a vegetarian. I'm very healthy with a lot of energy. I eat a lot of wheat--I even bake my own bread once a week and eat a lot of it--and have no problem with blood clotting and rejection and all the results D'Adamo says should happen when I eat wheat. They just don't happen.
His theories might have some validity IF we injected our food into us as he injected lectins into test tubes of blood. We don't. We eat it, and that's a whole 'nother horse to ride. Our digestive system breaks down the lectins so, unless there is a clinical condition--celiac disease, for example--our digestive system dismantles the lectins very well.
Mind you, lectins are important, but not as D'Adamo says they are.
What might you do instead? Eat well as we know eating well to be. Eat in moderation. Eat foods high in antioxidents and minerals, which means vegetables and fruit. Eat little fat: lean cuts of meat. Don't drink, at least not much. Don't smoke. Don't walk in front of trains (or anything else that might get you quite dead). Laugh a lot. Enjoy yourself. Treat your friends to coffee or lunch. Have a party every month.
And exercise.
That more than anything else will do your health the most good. The types of food you eat is less important than how much you eat and how much you exercise. Do both, and live well.

2007-08-19 14:12:59I tried it. My problem was I have arthritis. As someone with type O blood, I'm supposed to eat foods higher in fat and calories due to the high metabolism. So, eating the diet but not being able to follow the exercise routine for type O really made me gain weight.
My husband was type B. He was able to follow his recommended diet just fine. He ended up with a washboard stomach after following exercise and food tips.
Good luck!!
