Don't do it!!! Go to Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers or a weight loss support group or anything, but don't have gastric bypass surgery. It's more of an ordeal to do that and deal with the inevitable complications that accompany such a procedure than it is just to lose the weight naturally, with diet and excercise! You can do it!

Have you talked to your insurance company?
In the US the surgery is at least $20,000. If you go to the Obesity Help website they have all kinds of information on how to get approved for various insurance plans and I believe they have financing information as well.
You can go to Mexico and get it cheaper, but then you've got no follow-up and no pre-op or post-op support. The laws governing medicine are also different in other countries so you don't know what quality of care you'll receive.
It's a very difficult operation with the potential for massive complications. If you get home to the US and something happens to you, the hospital can't call your surgeon to come in and evaluate the situation.

Please, please, please do not look for a cheap doctor for this kind of procedure. You'll want to find a doctor who has been performing this surgery for a long time and has a very high success rate. Please don't put your life in the hands of someone who is less than qualified just to save some money. There are a lot of programs that can help with financing and all that jazz. You could end up dead if you go to someone who is offering a "great deal".
