Ask:Can gallstones gallbladder issues prevent weight loss
2008-03-21 19:03:30I have been completely unable to lose weight and was just diagnosed as having gallstones and gallbladder disease. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if so, has removal of gallstones and/or gallbladder helped with weight loss at all?
Answer:Can gallstones gallbladder issues prevent weight loss
2008-03-21 19:09:05I think there is research to suggest that yo-yo dieting contributes to gall stones. I don't think removal of the gall bladder helps with weight loss - if you change eating habits as a result of the surgery it may help with it. I had the surgery a few years ago and it did not make any difference.
Answer:Can gallstones gallbladder issues prevent weight loss
2008-03-21 19:19:30gallbladder issues can cause someone to not lose weight, however, most often doctors fail to do correct testing to see why the gallbladder has developed stones.
have you recently gained a lot of weight? sometimes that will cause gallstones. even losing too much to fast can cause gallstones.
correct testing should be done on the liver. many doctors fail to test the liver to see if that is why the gallbladder is causing an issue. you need to be checked out for hepatitis - a hep panel should be run just to rule out viral infections of the liver.
autoimmune hepatitis, NASH (fatty liver, ie, diet high in fat) as well as mono and other diseases that can affect the liver need to be addressed.
many heppers (infected with b or c) often have had their gallbladders out only to find out years after removal they have hbv or hcv (chronic).
sometimes it can be the thyroid by itself or liver disease that causes the thyroid to become sluggish- hence the inability to lose weight. normal values of TSH have been changed (years ago by the endocrine society) however, labs and doctors still go by old values and many who need thyroid medications are suffering. if you have heart palpitations that could be a sign of a malfunctioning thyroid!
ask your doctor!!!
