2007-03-29 22:36:48Losing weight is a simple equation: if you burn more calories than you eat, the weight will come off. Start off by estimating how many calories you burn each day using the calorie calculator http://straighthealth.com/pages/tools/ca... This will give you an idea of how many calories to eat. Healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds per week. To lose 1 pound per week you need to create a calorie deficit (burn more than you eat) of 500 calories per day. To lose 2 pounds a week, you have to double the deficit to 1000 calories per day. You can achieve this by eating less, exercising more or a combination of both.

2007-03-29 22:50:32Something else easy to try is increasing your fiber intake. I t sounds trite but the average american has 20 lbs. or more waste in their intestines on a daily basis. I like eating dried plums (prunes) and fiber caplets. Drinking enough water is the other big thing needed for elimination. I have heard you should drink 8oz. water for every 20 lbs. you weigh - exaplme I weigh 160lbs. so 20 goes into 160 8 times. I should drink at least 8 8oz. glasses of water. If I weighed more, I would need to drink more water. Taking a multivitamin will help you feel better too. I take a b-complex, esther c with d and multi. It really helps me have more energy. Other thing is to get a workout buddy. A neighbor, friend whoever- someone who will talk to you as you work out and help it go by quicker and make you feel less of a fool. I know I hate walking by myself. I don't mind when my husband goes with me though or even taking the neighbors dog. And remember all thing in moderation is a healthy motto.

2007-03-30 19:14:47Try this, it really does work!
The easiest and natural thing to do is to walk. So, choose a time of day when you are not busy and make that your walking moment. You do not have to power walk, but it must be continuous. That means every single day. No matter if you are on vacation or not. There is always walking to do. Start out going for a walk around your block for a week. Then the second week if you feel comfortable doing that then increase it to two blocks. Do not try to do more until you are comfortable walking two blocks. By the end of one month you will probably be at a comfort level where you can now walk for one hour up and one hour back to your home without getting winded, as long as you leisurely walk.
As I have mentioned before, do not power walk. Just leisurely walk non-stop every day. That includes in the rain and the snow and the heat. The key is to prepare yourself for the walk. If it is raining cats and dogs, don't bother with an umbrella. Get yourself a hooded raincoat and water galoshes. If it is snowing outside then buy a warm coat and scarf and gloves and boots. You might want to get a pair of dainty long johns and thermal socks. If it is hot outside, buy a headband and clothing that flecks the moisture away from your body.
You are not going to die of thirst in an hour at a leisurely pace so forget about the water bottle. Drink your water and empty your bladder before you leave the house, so that you will not be uncomfortable during your walk. Well, there you have it. One hour up and one hour back. No more, no less. Do not stop to pet the dog or smell the roses. Don't even stop to talk to your neighbors. Just smile and say hello and goodbye as you continue on your way. People will by now have noticed you have begun to slim down and will probably want to walk with you. It is alright to let them. But, stipulate to them that they must walk at YOUR PACE and on YOUR CHOSEN PATH! Resist the urge to power walk!
By now you are admiring yourself differently and have made walking a daily routine and it didn't cost you a thing. After you have been doing this for a good six months, it is well within reason that you want to do more for a variety. Well, good for you. Get out that ratty blanket that you keep on your bed and throw it on the floor. Now do get down there and strive to do five situps. Stop! I said 5! Only do 5. There's no race here. You are not in competition. Continue to only do five during the time that you have chosen to do them for one month. The second month if you choose to do so you may increase your situps to ten times each day. Continue to increase your situps ever every month until you reach fifty. Yes, I said 50! I know that you know someone who can do one hundred or more. But, you are not them and you asked for my advice. The reason that I make fifty a cut off point is because you want to make this a lifetime routine coupled with your walks and you don't want to risk hurting yourself or becoming bored.
As you do your walking and situp routines, don't forget to have fun.

2007-03-29 22:43:59drink water when thirsty, milk, juice and anything else are hidden calorie sinks that many people over look. If you think you're hungry and its NOT meal time, drink a full glass of water and wait 10 minutes. Over 70% of North Americans can not distinguish thirst from hunger.
Don't add salt or sugar to your meals once in bowl or on plate.
Make a commintment to exercise, set realistic achievable goals and time frames. Tell someone else and be accountable for it.
Cardio will NOT make you loose weight any time soon. The BEST way to loose weight quick is weight training. This does NOT mean bulking up. It means doing strength training not running for exercise. Muscle mass increases your resting metabolism. Cardio uses not only muscle but kinetic and potentional energy to get through the action. You burn less for the same amount of time. Still good for you, but a slower means to the same goal.

2007-03-29 22:41:57Hi there,
I totally recommend the Kimkins diet. It's kind of like the atkins diet but way healthier. You keep your carbs and fat to a minimum. I started the diet at the end of last August and within 2 months, I had lost 35 pounds. There is a website that will show you everything you need to know. This website also has an awesome forum of very supportive people to help you. Even the woman who came up with the diet is on the website all the time to help and give advice. Here is the link if you are interested. http://www.kimkins.com?a_aid=0345e923
Good luck with your search.
