Ask:Does the weight of the Earth ever change
2006-12-01 15:05:59Excluding living organisms, does the weight of the planet earth ever change, or is it in equilibrium. Are there noticeable weight losses in raw materials which are consumed by humans (fossil fuel) and not replaced. When iron ore is mined to make steel, there has to be a net weight loss between the weight of mined ore, and the amount of steel produced. Likewise with many other materials. Does all of this somehow effect the overall gravitational mass of the planet? Just curious if anyone has ever studied this.
Answer:Does the weight of the Earth ever change
2006-12-01 15:11:53The overall mass of the Earth is slowly getting larger as time goes on. This is because of meteorites and various space debris that is constantly landing on earth. There are only a couple of ways that the Earth can lose mass. One is very light elements like hydrogen and helium will escape the Earth's gravitational pull and be lost out into space. The other is if we send out a space probe that does not return to Earth (it was made from materials that came from Earth)
Answer:Does the weight of the Earth ever change
2006-12-01 15:55:55yes because water evaporates from the earth and goes to the sky and the weight of earth will change when that happens
Answer:Does the weight of the Earth ever change
2006-12-03 20:12:42well, when you digest something those elements don't disappear, they are converted into different elements. same with mining, same with burning wood. we gain heat from the sun, but we lose some back to space, in light elements . then there is meteorites and micrometeorites which add some 100 tons to earth every year

2006-12-01 15:15:33Answer:Does the weight of the Earth ever change
2006-12-01 15:10:14If you mean mass ... Earth doesn't really weigh anything since it floats in space ... I would have to guess yes. But, mostly due to the loss of mass to space from eruptions, space junk, etc. I think it's pretty marginal and may be replaced by meteors and other falling space junk.
But, as I said, it's just a guess.
Answer:Does the weight of the Earth ever change
2006-12-01 15:08:59Maybe a little since they kept going to outer space with shuttles and rockets which tend to leave behind space junk that was made on earth.
Answer:Does the weight of the Earth ever change
2006-12-01 15:51:07When we pray to God, the prayers take Energy, which has to come ultimately from the Earth. Each prayer requires about one millionth of a gram of energy. The number of prayers since the last Ice Age is estimated to be about 35 Gazillion, which means that the weight of the Earth has been reduced by 3000 pounds. This does not take into account the prayers of little children who pray to Santa Claus, because when Santa makes their presents, he creates them out of thing air.
