Asking about fasting to lose weight and excessive exercising.. A couple of days ago, a 10 year old girl was asking for some good pro ana websites...what is the world coming to?

Yes it is when they should be outside playing and have fun with their friends. It is a sad thing

I'm a teenager and I find it sad when little kids ask theses questions I mean what 5/6 years I go I don???t think I even think about my weight but then kids being over weight wasn???t in the media so much so maybe there was less preacher to think about it.

I agree with you completely. I don't understand why society has focused so much on appearances that children are concerned with things like their weight. Kids shouldn't have to think about things like that. It seems every year the kids get younger and younger too...before we know it our kindergartners will be discussing diet tips in the playgrounds.

Yes but I think it's important to give them advice on how to be healthy, maybe if someone had done that for me I wouldn't have resorted to bulimia when I was 13 because I was completley clueless!

Sad on several counts...
1-That we as a race are becoming so fat and lazy
2-That kids dont get out and play enough to fit and stay healthy
3-That everyone seems to be looking for the quick fix...whatever happened to hard work and commitment!

Yes it is, but there is no doubt that there are now many very overweight pre-teens. I have to say me experience of overweight pre-teen management in the UK has been very disappointing. There is little doubt that although calorie intake and appropriate diet is important, the major problem is lack of calorie expenditure.

omg.. PRO anorexic? that is scary.. wow ive never had a problem with weight -- I eat like a hog and nothing ever happens.. (im turning 13 in a week)

I know its messsed up, people are so obsessed with appearance but its shocking who young kids are pressured into looking who society says adults should look. I looked like sh*t when I was a kid, I didnt give a crap.

weight gain and diet is what EVERYONE talks about all the time... so no wonder kids are paying attention to it as well... in a way it's good that they are become alarmed from an early age... although i agree it's really sad for young kids to be concerned about weight gain... my eight year old niece says she is on diet! I think i hate the word diet now...

I agree. I answered a question from a 12-year-old girl who wanted to lose five pounds. She said she was fat at 125 pounds. I do not know who is to blame if anyone, but I do know the media perpetuates a lot of this.

children using the internet should have parental controls, and shouldnt be allowed to gain access to yahoo q and a, there is things on here children shouldnt know about

My 9 year old has started coming home from school saying shes too fat and needs to exercise. She is in no way fat, but the schools are going on and on at them to eat healthy and exercise etc etc that its making her paranoid. Its no wonder so many young girls are becoming anorexic etc.
We need to get a healthy balance and stop putting all this pressure on young children

what i think is that its a good sign that now even kids realize that over weight is a problem and they should start taking healthy food from beginning. and they should avid junk food.

My fav website has a body image quiz on it, written by the author of a book called Picture Perfect which is all about how girls see themselves. Underneath the quiz are all kinds of comments from girls who took the quiz and their results -- while some of them def. fall in the obsessed range, others seem like they have a normal healthy attitude toward their bodies. It is nice to see -- I worry a lot about kids who make posts like the one you describe but with all the focus lately on childhood obesity PLUS the media images of super thin actresses and models, you can see where it comes from
