2008-09-15 18:58:29"warm nose myth" has many pet owners feeling that their pet has a fever (or otherwise sick) if the nose is warm and dry. A dog's (or cat's) nose may be very wet and cool one moment then be warmer and not-so-moist the next. All in the course of a day. All perfectly normal.
Changes in texture (crusty, flaky) and color (loss of pigmentation) of a pet's nose should be looked at by your veterinarian. A prolonged dry, cracked nose, particularly with loss of pigmentation, scabs or open sores should be examined by your veterinarian sooner rather than later. An ill animal will often have a warm, dry nose in addition to other symptoms, such as: lethargy, decreased or absent appetite, vomiting, diarrhea and so on. In the absence of other physical signs, there are a host of dermatological (skin) problems that can be seen in this area, such as Pemphigus Foliaceus.

2008-09-15 18:58:59I would take your dog to the vet. The nose dry thing isn't something to worry about unless it is so dry it is cracking. The weight loss and drinking a lot of water could point to many things such as your dog might be diabetic, but your vet really needs to see the dog and figure out what is wrong.

2008-09-15 18:59:08If your dog has had a severe weight loss then I can't see how she appears healthy. The excessive drinking and the loss of weight could be an indication of diabetes and she should be seen by a vet. Any dog who suddenly looses a lot of weight should be a cause for concern.

2008-09-15 18:59:34With severe weight loss she needs to see the vet. I had a dog with quick severe weight loss, within a month or so and he had cancer and died. I didn't know until we had the blood test done and we had to put him down. I don't mean to scare you but it happened so fast with my boy. He felt weak towards the end., didn't have a appetite.

2008-09-15 19:00:49I would say to take her to the vet asap. It could be diabetes, Cushing's syndrome, or something else. Does she drink excessively, and urinate excessively. Is she skinny, but her tummy looks pot bellied? Is she hungry all the time? Is her face getting a skull like look? Bring her in.
Answer:my dogs nose is dry she has had severe weight loss and drinks all the time. she appears healthy
2008-09-15 19:03:11Your dog can't possibly appear healthy if she has had "severe weight loss." Drinking excessively is also an obvious sign of a significant health problem. Take your dog to the vet and find out what is wrong with you. Aside from diabetes, kidney failure also comes to mind as a possibility. If either of these conditions is caught early enough then it is possible to manage them with treatment and you could literally add years of quality time to your dog's life.
