Ask:Is doing cardio or lifting weights more effective for fat loss

    2012-02-05 02:24:12 +0000

I've heard that things like running/biking/doing the elliptical is the best thing to do if you are looking to lose fat. But I've also heard that lifting weights is also the best thing for losing fat. Which is it? If it's a combination of both, which should I be doing more of?
    Thank you! :)

the best is a combination. cardio workouts that require strength like rowing or and elliptical are great. running burns probably the most calories but with muscle you burn calories even at rest. i suggest doing a combination of both and when lifting weights high reps low weight is best for weight loss

Lifting weights. But also cardio. When you grow your muscles with weight lifting your metabolism increases therefore you will burn more.

I had signed up for gym membership a few weeks ago, and I had to complete an assessment. The person who took my assessment asked me what were my goals, and I told her I wanted to be a toned 140 lbs. Her advice was to do cardio to reduce body fat. She said focus on cardio for 6 weeks, then after that start weight training. So I guess basically if you are trying to reduce body fat, you focus on cardio, and if you want to be more toned, then you add weights. In lieu of exercise I am also using the Her Mind & Body Weight Loss Planner.
