Ask:Help with weight loss
2012-02-13 19:41:41 +0000I am 17 years old, approximately 13 stone, (around 180 lbs, I think!!) and I'm around 5ft 6", im not huge, but having recently started college with a canteen selling variations of delicious snacks all day long, for me to pig out on, on any of my 2-4 hour breaks a day, I'm pilling the weight on, and the problem is, out of fruit/veg/salad, I can only eat pea's and carrots, fruit and salad make me physically gag, however I do eat a larger variation of soups and fruit juices. I live with my grandparents and I just find something so awkward about telling them 'I'm on a diet' this could be my resistance to giving my nana the satisfaction, as she is forever making comments that make me feel twice as large as I am, I don't know, but this makes it difficult to 'restrict my eating' etc, the constant snacking etc is my own doing, but I just do not have any will power at all and once it pops into my head to go and buy a nice creamy chicken bake, I can try and tell myself not to 100 times and I still end up doing so, I have a majority overweight family and I want to nip it in the bud whilst I still can, help?!

2012-02-13 19:45:57 +0000It's all about portion control, your really only supposed to only eat what you can fit in the palm of your hand...nobody does that, but I've lost 85lbs by cutting out coke/diet coke and only drinking water, cutting out fried foods(fast food),cutting out red meat(Still eating fish and chicken) NOT eating anything after 6pm. Doing this YOU WILL lose weight, now if you incorporate exercise you will shed those pounds like crazy! Hope this helps and best of luck!

2012-02-13 19:48:19 +0000Well the biggest thing is you are going to have to stop snacking. No matter how hard it is, constantly snacking is just going to keep packing on those extra calories. Only eat when you are absolutely hungry, not when you are bored (which is what many people who snack have the tendency to do). Eat only light snacks if you have to. No more high sugar, high sodium, or high fat foods. Limit your servings to small amounts and don't go back for seconds. Also fruit juices are not a good thing to be having all the time. They are usually completely packed with sugar. Stick to water. Try to find a fruit you can stand, or dried fruit. Try apples with cinnamon on them or something. And the best thing you can do for yourself is exercise regularly of course.

2012-02-13 19:56:06 +0000i know how hard temp tation can be! try keeping protien such as added fiber cereal bars or small sacks of jerky or granola with you to nibble on when you get a craving. plain pop corn with seasonings or even a sugar substitue and cinnamon will help. chew gum, always keep a bottle of water with you that way if you do give in to the chicken bake you wont eat as much as you normally would have without the water to fill up part of your stomach. chewing slowly and taking smaller bites also helps to fill you up quicker and let you enjoy the flavor. as far as your grandmother in concerned, try enforcing these habits while away from home first then slowly enforce them at home so it doesnt draw attention like a all crisps one day all salad the next diet change would. it might be easier if you respectfully told her that you are taking steps to be healthier if weight loss is obtained thats great but you all in all want to feel healthier. also try finding a sport or exercise class you might enjoy. that way you can always work off the extra calories if you find yourself knee deep in sugary goodness :) good luck!!!
