    i have never really ran before, i usually do the elliptical. one time i tried to get on the treadmill and i could only run for 2 minutes.

    Well, start out small. Go at a comfortable pace to warm up. (Make sure you can still talk while you start) Go at this pace for about 5 minutes, then pump it up a bit, walking at a more brisk pace. (Able to talk with pauses in between) The treadmil has the advantage of the hills and some have great programs to take the thinking out of it. Here I also added some additional info, if you wanna read more....
    BTW--Music can really help with a treadmil workout.

    It's better if you can get outside, rather than use a treadmill. First because you aren't watching the treadmill settings and second because you always have to get back to your starting point, which a lot of times helps me to continue. Make sure you have some good music to listen to and start by combining running and walking. If you can run for 2 minutes, then do that followed by walking for 5, then run for 2 more. But push yourself, you can probably go a lot longer if you push past that first urge to stop.
    Running doesn't come naturally, but I was able to work myself up to 2-3 mile runs.

    Start out walking then work your way to running. And yes it's better to do it in a group. That way you will stay motivated. And remember to bring lots of water.

    Find a local running group. If it wasn't for my group, there is no way in the world I would run by myself. The treadmill is more like the deadmill. I can't stand it!!!
    Anyway, your local shoe running store is a good place to start, or check active.com. Good luck!
