Ask:If you eat healthy all week and then eat really badly one day can that hinder your weight loss
2008-03-06 16:51:47Just wondering if it is possible to gain weight by just eating bad one day.. or if that one day of eating bad can add enough calories for the week to cause you to maintain the current weight. I've heard its good to have a "cheat day", i was just wondering if it is still possible to eat too much on the "cheat day."

2008-03-06 17:02:25It depends on how many calories you eat that day.
Say Friday is your cheat day and you have pasta for lunch and go out for pizza and beer that night... while out at the bar you have cheese sticks, chips and queso, nachos.... and after the bar you grab a hot dog or fast food.
Say those calories all add up to 4800. Your body only requires about 1200 to operate.... at the end of your cheat day youve gained a whole pound. Now look at all the work you are going to have to do just to get that pound back off.
I find its much easier to have a night during the week that I can have something I have been craving...but keep the portion small. Your mouth doesnt know the difference between scarfing down a huge slice of cake.... or slowly savoring a small slice.
Whenever I really really want something I will have a bite of it, and chew it for as long as possible. That way I satisfy my craving without ruining all of my hard work.
You can also make substitutions for your not-so-healthy favorites.
Organic peanut butter doesnt have the bonding agent that contains all of the transfat.
Frozen chocolate cool whip tastes a lot like chocolate ice cream.
The list goes on, there are subs for most favorites.

2008-03-06 17:12:10No. I have lost 20 pounds so far and my diet is 1200 calories, 30 fat grams a day and I take 1 day each week (usually Saturday) where I eat whatever I want no counting calories or fat grams. I don't go crazy but I eat what I want. I have not gained because of it. I also exercise at least 5 days a week. Like someone else said, it takes 3500 calories to gain a pound. If you need 1 day a week to indulge to help keep you on track, go for it. You know your body better than anyone else on here. I have to have 1 day a week or I would not have stuck with this diet for so long, that's for sure. It's not good to be so strict with yourself either, you'll have a better chance of sticking with it if you're a little lenient. Good Luck!

2008-03-06 16:58:03It can take your body up to 2 weeks to rid your body of excess sugars and carbs if you need your cheat day I suggest having one like once a month.

2008-03-06 17:04:00not really, the effects are not immediate. but i would recommend is you workout the junk you consume once a week. it is plain science - what you put in you must get or burn it out - exercise.

2008-03-06 16:57:06If you spend your whole 'cheat day' just eating, then yea, it will catch up on ya.
Every Friday & Saturday is my cheat day, I eat whatever I want. Take it easy on Sunday & by Monday you're back in the loop.
If you work out, make sure you get some of that in on your cheat day too. It only helps more.
You have to treat yourself every now & then. Its possible to have a couple cookies & not eat the whole bag.
If you go too long without letting yourself eat something like that, when you finally do you're gonna binge! (Speaking from expierence!)

2008-03-06 16:56:59It is best NOT to have a cheat day, but if you can't help yourself, make sure you only eat as much as the fat *** you eat with that way you will not gain as much weight.

2008-03-06 16:57:42it is good that you are eating right all week, and if you eat bad one day it wont matter because it takes 3,500 calories to gain one pound, any calories over 2,800 for an active man gets stored and over time they add up until they hit 3,500 and that is where you gain your pound, so no its not bad just try not to make a habit out of it.
