Losing weight comes down to calorie intake.
FInd out how much you wanna lose and don't make unrealistic goals, healthly weight loss is about 1-3lbs a week. Use this calculator to find out how many calories you need to intake to maintain weight and well, just eat less than the required calories.
Also losing weight means to cut out the junk food (as already mentioned) fatty foods, foods high in oil, fried, saturated etc. It should be pretty clear wat these include. Whenever you buy things read the packaged for how many calories it has. Start a log and write down how many calories youve consumed.
Of course apples and oranges dont have that kind of information on them, cause well there not packaged. But the internet is a useful tool for finding that information just google it.
Drink lots of water, and well if your drinking other things again make sure its not high in calories, cause water has 0 which is a huge bonus. Juices are usually high in sugar.
Just eat the fruits and veggies, dont rely on fruit drinks to get make up for them
Well if you have time to exercise thats great, fast walking is optimal for weigth loss. Other than that just stay active, try not to sit for long periods of time.
Stick to your plan as well, dont expect to results right away, and dont rely on the scale to see if ur losing weight cause its not a good way to check, you could drink lots of water before u got on and it'll add a pound or 2. Just look at urself in the mirror you'll be able to tell, also the way your clothes get lose over time.
Use the internet to search for meals you can make that are low in fat and calories and are filling.
    Hope that helps!

Fact from fiction, truth from diction. When I found myself much fatter than I wanted to be(looked doen and could not see my toes)I wanted to shed the mass. I did not know crap about dieting other than I know what food I like, and I was not going to give them up. So, a diet would not work. BUT, what I could do is change the way I ate. Instead of wolfing down three scoops of mashed potatoes, I had only one. Instead of the usual 2 rolls, 3/4 of one, etc. I also swapped out healthier choices when I could, sobe or frozen yogurt for ice cream. Multi-grain breads for regular, And eat slowly and CHEW. The more you chew each bit the earlier you will feel full.
There is more but space is short. So, we have to move on the what you can do physically. GET OF YOUR A**. If you have erands to run around town, the ones that are in a general of each other. Park the car in a central location and WALK to them. I started with 1/2 mile. then 1 mile, then two. Also throw in some strength training with weights. If you can do in the evening after dinner weights speed up the metabolism and continue to do so up to TWO HOURS AFTER you have stopped. And it burns calories. You may not seem to lose much standing on the scale. But the weight you will have will be lean curvy muscle(no, you will not have bulging mucles like a man. You don't have the right hormones or be working out 6 hours or more everyday) Have "TV rope night". Get a jump rope. The 1st commercial break, jump rope through it. The second break, jump every other commercial. Then the 3rd break jump through all of it again. Then do some road work on a bike. In about 10 to twelve week you will be less and turning heads(if you also do smarter eating choices) I went from "Potato pouch Pete" to being told I had the best physique of all the males of any age in the apartment complex I lived in at the time. It is not WHAT you eat, as much as WHAT you KEEP. Treat your calories like a bank account. You spend more than you are putting in, you go broke. Keep spending, you owe. You want to spend ALL your available calories and go in to the "piggy bank" your fat cells.

Get on a diabetic diet, even if you don't have diabetes. That means limiting sugar and alcohol, replacing all white starches with whole grain (brown rice, wheat bread, etc), and do not eat fried or fatty foods. Increase your intake of veggies, fruit, and good fats such as nuts and beans.
Exercize every day if possible, or at least three times a week. Aerobics, bike, swimming, power walking...anything that you can do.
    Good luck!

Recently diagnosed diabetic, now on this exact diet plan.

Thats a lot! You'd need to take it slowly, no more than a couple of pounds or so a week to start with. If it takes time to go its more likely to stay off. Reckon on 6 months or so.
Eat fresh, none processed food, have a good breakfast, drink lots of water and cut out fatty foods.
