if you get discouraged, throw your scale away, and if you visit someone only once a month, use theirs.
that way you'll be really happy, instead of weighing yourself once a day/week.
you can do a lot of stuff at home, like jogging in place, and jump roping.

Yes, my program is all about results or I wouldn't have a job. I've got everything you need to lose 40 lbs in 4 months. Eat 3 balanced meals a day, drink your water and do some light walking or biking for 30 minutes 3 or 4 times a week. High protein, low carbs, fruits and veggies. Results are instant and there's your motivation. I lost my baby fat and kept it off for 6 years. Email me for more help.

My doctor suggested veganism. Nothing with a face or a mother. No dairy (cheese or milk), no eggs. On the good side of this, no extra exercise is needed either.
I've lost 15 pounds in two and a half months and have kept it off. The weight doesn't fall off like some "diets", but it sure stays off, and isn't that more important?

go wheat free. No pasta, pizza, bread and so on. And no food after 7
p.m. People achieve marvellous results with it. Depending on your
initial weight, you can drop upwards from 20 pounds a month. If you don't eat wheat then you don't eat all those sticky, fatty goey cakes, you don't eat junk food, and you don't eat biscuits. But your diet is
still balanced. It costs nothing, and you do not have to calculate points or to buy special meals or plans.

Sorry but I have to tell you, there's no fast way to see results, they happen over time and it's unbelievably easy to forget what you looked like if you pass a mirror every day.
I figured the best way to see results is in lifting weights (not for losing the weight, but to see just how much I lost), if you take a 5-10 pound weight in your hand, you can say at the end of it, or at the beginning, I lost all this weight, and you can visualize yourself actually carrying around the extra weights and see how much a hassle it would be.
But generally what most people do is take a picture of themselves and leave it somewhere, take another picture at their next weigh in, or after X amount has been lost.
I've been in your shoes (except for the parent part, but I can't really get anywhere where I am) and can tell you when I first looked at losing weight, I thought it was going to be a breeze, 2 months and done!, but it doesn't work like that unfortunately, and you have to take into account women don't burn fat as fast as men, if you push yourself you could be looking at 2-3 lbs a week loss, if you take the turtle approach you'll be looking at 1-2 lbs a week, try not to get too boggled down with numbers though.
The best way to lose weight is to switch unhealthy foods (foods that are abnormally high in fat, saturates, salt, and throw them out the window, or be evil and feed them to your kids and make something else for yourself (I'd so take that option), my 'lifestyle' change saw me eating cereal in the morning, sandwich for lunch (chicken / turkey) filling, with cucumber tomatoes etc, usually chicken for dinner, just because it's so good for protein and so low in fat, usually I'd have a baked potatoes with it, or I'd make mashed potatoes, too much potatoes can be bad for you, so alternate with different things to have on the side, or make up your own mind on what you want to have, finally something very small during the afternoon around 3hours before I go off to bed. (You want to stick to around 500 calories less than your recommended intake, this will give you a boost in losing the weight, but you won't go into starvation mode by eating that amount)
Exercise, this is really important part of dieting, it'll really boost your results, whenever I've not been doing exercise, it could sometimes take weeks to see a difference on the scale, as opposed to every week. Generally what good exercise is, is a fast sustained walk in my opinion, for anyone that's jumping into exercising walking should be simple enough, 1 hour walking a day is all it takes, whether you want to take your kids with you is really your choice, if you can't manage to even get 1 hour away from the kids I really have no idea what you could do, maybe playing with them running around after them throughout the day will give you your fill of exercise, try being an active mum (maybe you already are which would be great).
Finally (I know this is getting long, I could write a whole book to be honest), track your weekly results, make a log sheet for the week, this can just be ticking off things (like mine) for example: Stuck to daily diet plan *tick* exercise *tick*, or a little bit more detailed which consists of taking notes on everything you've eaten and done throughout the day, in order to pinpoint and improve your plan.
    Good luck

    DIET. DIET. DIET.
Fat loss is mostly a diet issue. You can run 100 miles a day but if you eat 28 large pizzas a night it wont matter. Eating several small meals throughout the day is the best way to go. It encourages the metabolism to keep moving. If you eat once every 5 hours your metabolism will slow down, eating once every 2.5-3 hours will speed that process right up. Also eating smaller meals is easier for your body to handle. it will more completely process your food into energy you'll have more energy just changing the frequency of your meals!
Next is what you eat. Calories come in 3 sources.
    Fats
    Proteins
    carbs.
You need all 3 of those to properly function.
Carbs despite popular belief are a good thing. Just make sure they are coming from more natural sources. Whole wheat breads, oatmeal, and fibrous fruits are the way to go here. Stay away from processed sugars and corn syrup.
Proteins are responsible for several body functions and are as equally important as carbohydrates. Proteins come from several sources, the best come from lean meats, dairy, poultry, and soy products.
Fats are needed for several functions as well. Nuts are generally a good source for fats. As well as Flax seed and fish oils. Avacados are another good source as well.
Determining how much to eat is a little harder. You shouldn't lose more than 2 lbs a week as if you do lose more than that you will lose as much, if not more muscle than you lose in fat. If you lose muscle your metabolism will decline dramitacly. There are several calculators in the internet giving you a base idea of where to start as far as calorie counts are concerned, but the best way is through trial and error. if you pick say 2,000 calories a day to start, at the end of one week if you have lost 2 lbs you are right on track. If you gain weight try dropping your calorie intake by 500. If you lose 4 or more lbs try raising it by 500. Its not an exact science, and it will chage over time.
The next step is your exercise. Try to set aside an hour a day (with or without your children) to be active. Go to the park, go on a walk, ride bikes, jump rope, play basketall(my fave, I suppose any sport will do) buy a nintendo WII and play "WII fit" with the kids. anything active will help, shoot for an hour a day.
Learning how your body reacts will take some time but doing it healthfully will have benfits that you'll reap for the rest of your life. You'll feel better, have more energy, and might even get to spend more time with the grand kids... assuming you'll have those one day.
