Ask:Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome-weight loss-diabetes related.
2009-01-29 14:10:44Hi, the dr. told me today he was nearly certain I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), which bares some similarities to diabetes. Weight is a big issue with this syndrome, and it causes girls to build up excess abdominal weight. Supposedly, it is more difficult to lose it with PCOS.
I was wondering what tips diabetics have for exercising, and eating. What foods do you avoid, what do you make sure you eat, and how often do you excercise, and is it difficult for you to lose weight?
Thanks :

2009-01-29 14:58:26Women with PCOS are often prescribed Metformin, a drug for people with Type 2 diabetes, because of its weight-loss properties. If you are experiencing elevated blood sugar and you need to lose weight, a small dose of Metformin might be just the thing you need.
Diabetics usually follow a low-carbohydrate diet. Low-carbohydrate diets are great for losing weight quickly. They avoid pasta, rice, potatoes, bread, and sugar. They eat lots of protein, cheese, and vegetables. Exercise as often as you can - even just a walk around the block. As a general rule, 30 minutes a day is a good target.
