Ask:Pregnancy weight loss dieting in 1st trimester

I have just found out I'm pg with my second...which is brilliant but unexpected. I am about 4 weeks, so very early.
My son is nearly three and since having him I've put on loads of weight mainly due to eating my way though depression and having my gallbladder removed. Having come out the other side of depression and completely off anti-deps for over 3 months, I was planning to start focusing on my bodys health.
Obviously for my baby I want to eat a healthy diet. More veg less choc etc. But I will undoubtedly start losing weight straight away. Eating healthily for 3 days I can lose 4lbs (thats how bad my diet has been).
Surely losing weight from a healthy new food regieme is better than giving my baby unhealthy nutrients. And obviously I'm not talking about 'dieting' just healthy eating.
Will the weightloss be bad for my baby?
    Any help appreciated.

if you are a good bit overweight, chances are that your doctor/midwife will tell you to try to stay at or very close to your pre-pregnancy weight. this would be achieved by replacing junk and other very high calorie foods with more nutritious foods and cutting down on portion size. ie if you usually have two handfuls of chips with your dinner, only take one handful or even better replace the chips with boiled spuds, rice, pasta or couscous. replace normal mayo with lowfat mayo etc. and having healthy snacks between meals to ensure that the baby is getting everything it needs. (in other words, don't go hungry for extended periods throughout the day)
don't cut out comfort foods completely because if you deprive yourself completely then you could end up binging on it.
so, loosing weight is not exactly recommended but if you are pretty overweight you can try to stay at your current weight or only put on a few pounds. (by pretty overweight i mean a BMI of 30 or over, if your BMI is less then just try to stay within the recommended weight gain of 12-15kg. that way you won't have to shift extra pounds after the baby is born)
