Ask:Questions about weight loss and the gym

I'm not over weight, but it seems my weight pools in my thighs. Literally, my thighs and butt are all of my weight. To keep everything simple, I want to lose about 10 pounds, THE HEALTHY way, i want a lifestyle chance that will stick with me forever, and not just rapidly lose 10 pounds in a month and then gain it right back.
I've never really been "healthy" i guess, but i've never been overweight, i guess luck was just on my side my whole life until recently i started gaining some weight. I realize that if i don't start getting in the habbit of excersising and eating healthy it'll catch up with me later, and i'll regret it.
Mainlt i just want to know what machines in the gym will help me overall tone my body (since i don't really have weight to lose) but specifically flatten my belly (i want like, a natalie portman belly :P) and my hips, thighs, and glutes.
Yesterday at the gym i did 30 minutes on the eliptical (2.5 miles) and about 15 minutes on a bike (i think about 3 miles) and then just some simple arm and leg resistance, since i havent been to the gym, or really physical in over a year.
ALSO! On the elliptical, or if i'm running, i have a very hard time with my breathing, i get short of breath easily and after awhile it feels like my throat is closing up and my lungs are going to collapse (especially if i'm outside running, i can last maybe a minute or 2 and thats it without stopping) is this something i'll just have to train my body to get used to? Because i could run forever (physically wise, my legs and muscles feel fine) except my lungs and throat feel like there going to stop working :P
thanks so much in advance! :D

how long have you been working out? the more muscle you gain, the easier runnings going to be. don't push yourself too hard, and keep it easy so that you don't wear yourself out/ pass out/ asphyxiate. muscles all over your body need to be worked.
when you're outside, if it's cold, it's gonna be harder to breathe, that's just how it is. i asked my doctor about this- he said it's totally normal. welcome to existence )
