Answer:Is 2 really that big of a deal concerning weight loss Skim tastes like milk flavored water
2008-02-12 08:25:36It depends on the quantity of milk that you drink. Since fat carries 9 calories per gram, trimming the fat will greatly reduce calorie consumption (and flavour). In general, you can expect to see a 30-40% difference in calories between 2% and skim milk.

2008-02-12 08:24:29If you keep drinking the same type of milk you will get used to it. So if you want to cut that extra 2% out, then just keep drinking skim.

Answer:Is 2 really that big of a deal concerning weight loss Skim tastes like milk flavored water
2008-02-12 08:33:16Every little change makes a difference if you are trying to lose weight but the difference between skim and 2% is not huge and you can make up the difference by being a little more active. One cup of skim milk has 90 calories and 0 grams of fat while one cup of 2% milk has 130 calories with 5 grams of fat. Otherwise there is very little difference nutritionally. Skim has 1 gram less protein in a cup. So figure out how much milk you use in a day and increase you activity level enough to make up for the diffference. Or try to switch to 1% instead of 2%. 2008-02-12 10:24:11I think 1% hit the west coast later than many states. We'd hear about it, but it wasn't in the stores. When it came, we instantly loved it.

2008-02-12 08:26:09You know you get used to everything. When my mom ws alive, she always bought 2% & I always bought skim. When she had to come live with me, for a long time we both bought out own milk. WWhen she had to be hospitalized, I ordered her skim, & she never noticed or comlained. When she got home & used her 2%, she said it was nasty & "way too thick". She never used the 2% again, & fortunately she thought the whole thing was funny!!

2008-02-12 08:29:01I drink skim all the time. All of the protein, none of the fat. If you lift weights it's the obvious choice.

Answer:Is 2 really that big of a deal concerning weight loss Skim tastes like milk flavored water
2008-02-12 08:30:372% is perfectly fine. The fat in Milk consists of MCT's, medium chain triglecerides, which is shorter chains that are most likely burned off as energy, rather then stored as fat. So, you should be fine with 2%. Personally I've been drinking whole milk for a while now, and have actually lost fat. But it isn't for everyone.

2008-02-12 08:29:34The extra calories aren't that big of a deal unless you are drinking a lot more than the recommended daily glasses. You could always take the stairs instead of the elevator or park at the far end of the parking lot, and probably make up the difference of a glass.
Skim milk - 8 oz - 86 calories
2 % milkfat - 8 oz - 122 calories
So, it really depends on how much you're drinking.
In high school some of my weight lifter friends would drink a gallon every 1 to 2 days. That would make a big difference. But then, that was why they were doing it.
Hope that helps.

2008-02-12 08:23:17Honestly, skim is nasty. I always drink 2%, and I never gain weight (I have a fast metabolism).

2008-02-12 08:24:27Anywhere you can cut some fat and calories is a help when it comes to weight loss and overall health. Start with 2% and then after a few weeks go to 1% and then down to skim.
When I got pregnant I forced myself to drink skim milk because I knew it was better for me and the baby. Now... I only drink skim milk and can't stand whole milk - tastes like I'm drinking fat globs
Whole milk - 8 grams of fat
2% - 4.5 grams of fat
1% 2.5 grams of fat
skim - 0 grams of fat

2008-02-12 08:24:01If you are trying to lose weight without giving up milk entirely, skim is a reasonable compromise. However, if you find it that unpalatable, simply account for milk with the slightly higher 2% fat content in your weight loss plan.

2008-02-12 08:25:41Try 1% rather than skim. There is a difference.
I did the transition gradually, by pouring half 2% and half 1% until I was used to that, and didn't miss the 2%. Then I slowly reduce the amount of 2% I used until I wasn't using any at all. Then I did the same process to go from 1% to skim.

2008-02-12 08:32:19believe me...I used to insist on whole milk, but then started slowly weaning myself down. First I'd combine whole and 2%, then purely 2%, then 1%, and now skim. I can NO LONGER stomach whole mile. It tastes like drinking heavy whipping cream. If you want to lose weight, wouldn't you want to give it everything you possibly could to do it? What's the harm in sucking it up for a few months while you work on losing?!?! It's not like you're drinking it all day, you should only have 2 cups per day anyhow. The rest should come from the foods you eat.

2008-02-12 08:38:53Try light soy milk. It isn't at all like skim milk and has less calories than 2%. It also has TONS more nutrients than milk and is better for the environment.

2008-02-12 08:23:26yeah, skim milk isnt that great for you, sure it has less fat, but virtually non nutrients. Vitamin AD milk is the best, and you wont gain weight by drinking it, you'll actually lose weight.
