Ask:Running and weight loss
2008-05-18 05:42:02I am 19, am 188cm (6ƈ") tall and weigh 94kg (207lbs). I have started out running/jogging everyday. I do about 1.75 miles a day and try to eat healthily. Will this enable me to lose weight?
I run it in about 15mins, averages about 11km/h.
Any answers welcome!

2008-05-18 06:08:44Yes, of course it will!
But if you truely want to lose weight, keep in mind that it may take TIME for your body to get into "weight loss" mode.
Don't be discouraged about this - I started jogging 4 months ago, and I LITERALLY did not see any weight loss at all for the first whole MONTH!
But after that first month, the weight started coming off REALLY quick... In the following 3 months, I lost 35 lbs.... and I'm pretty much losing weight every week now.
I started running on the treadmill at 5.0 miles/hr for 20 mins (and could barely catch my breath), and now I can easily run at 6.0 miles/hr for 40 mins, non-stop. I went from 160 lbs to about 125-130 lbs (I'm 5Ƌ and female. If you're a guy, your results might come faster and be more significant because of your physiology...)
Hope your experience goes well! Remember that quitting is not an option (slow down if you have to, but never ever quit!). It would probably help keep you on tract if you kept a blog of your routine (that definately helped me!).
Good luck!

2008-05-18 05:49:52That's great that you are eating healthy and getting exercise! Running will definitely help you lose weight. 1.75 is a great start, but eventually you will get in better shape and it will get easier for you. That's when you will want to step up the intensity. Just remember that it's all about the physical effort you're exerting, not necessarily the distance. Also, make sure not to carb load after. You're body will crave the carbs, but don't eat too many. While they are good for your body, a little bit goes a long way.
Good luck! Hope this helps :)

I suggest that you take time to find a good guide on weight loss and dieting.
I can recommend one to you and I will post a link to my blog where I talk about issues like these at the bottom.
Think of it like this... if you follow the instructions on the blog weight loss and dieting should only take one attempt.
Why go through frustrating struggles and risk injury when you can do it the right way.
Feel free to drop by and leave me a question or comment. I hope you will have the same results that I did!

2008-05-18 05:52:20Running is an excellent way to burn calories and help the heart. However you must remember the rule of weight lose. Calories in must be less than calories out. the greater the difference the more weight you will lose.
In simple language: Do not go eat a junk of food or suck down extra beer to celebrate you run.

2008-05-18 05:51:58Cardio exercises are great but don't just stick to them exclusively. Do more of a whole body workout along with the running. By getting more muscle groups involved you will increase your metabolism faster. This will help burn off the fat faster.
I found a good article about this at http://healthcareaspects.com/Cardio-Work...
