Ask:Is this a good plan for weight loss

    2007-03-22 21:13:44

I'm 19 years old, 5' 11" tall, and 185 pounds at the moment. I want to try to lose 10-15 pounds before the school year ends in the middle of May, which gives me around 2 months. Right now, my plan is to end each day with a total of 1200 net calories consumed(calories consumed-calories used in exercise). Right now, I'm not planning on doing any weight lifting, just running. I usually go to the gym 6 or 7 days a week and run for 30 minutes straight at around 6-8 MPH. This burns the 300 calories or so I need to maintain my 1200 calorie/day diet. This is in addition to all the walking I do on a daily basis going from class to class(on average about a mile a day at a decent pace)
As far as my diet, I will drink only water(which isn't a change since I cut soda out two years ago), cut out sugars(stuff like candy, cookies, desserts), eat more salad, and eat fruit(again, not a change) in addition to some low fat entrees for meals. I plan on keeping my daily intake of fat to around 40-50 grams

Your story is similiar to mine.
My brother and I lost a lot of weight during our first and second week of exercising. I believe in my case....it was mostly water weight. I lost 5 pounds in several days and my waistline was definitely slimmer.
Our morning and evening exercise routine consisted of a 30-minute combination of ab exercises, stationary bicycling, push-ups and Taebo-style aerobic workout.
However, after the third week of exercise, I noticed that the weight was not coming off as easily.
So, I decided to add lifting weights from tips I found in a Muscle & Fitness article from the website: http://1info4u.burnthefat.hop.clickbank....
It is called Burn The Fat and it is for both men and women.
My weight really started coming off quick with the easy weight training and we did it all from home. I ate the same food as before which consisted of:
    Breakfast
3 eggs, yogurt, oatmeal, protein shake
    Mid-Morning Snack
apple sauce, unsalted sunflower seeds, few pieces of cantelope
    Lunch
turkey or chicken sandwich (ingredients: whole grain bread with mustard, mesquite turkey or chicken, lettuce and tomato)
    water or cranberry juice
    tangerine or orange
    yogurt
    salad
    Post Lunch
    peach
    unsalted cashews
    Dinner
    rice
steamed or slightly boiled vegetables (squash, cucumbers, carrots, green beans, onions, garlic, red or green pepper)
    beets
    water or protein shake
    Post-Dinner
    2 or 3 eggs
    2 slices of tomatoes
small portion of torkey or skinless chicken
    water
The simple weight training along with my meal plan burned the fat and calories like magic.
I certainly hope this helps you in your quest to slim down.
Keep up the good work and don't give up!

It sounds like a good plan. If you do only one thing, running is the most important and effective, in terms of exercise. Eat smaller portions more often as opposed to larger portions less often. This will boost your metabolism and keep your blood sugar at a steady level which promotes fat burning. Also, eat alot of green vegetables. They are known to have negative calories and promote the burning of more calories than you take in. Don't eat past 7 p.m. because at night your metabolism slows down dramatically.

It sounds great to me. If you want a variety of cardio exercises, you may want to add the treadmill and the stationary bike. You can run one day, do the treadmill the next day, and the stationary bike the next each for 30 minutes. Just an idea. Your diet and exercise program is really good though.

If you want to lose weight you need to also do work those upper body muscles. Thats wear the fat burning comes in, and remember it takes some 3000+ calories to burn one pound of fat.

That sounds like a good plan. If you are going to the gym that often, though, I would increase your calories by 100 or so, and take a multivitamin. Good luck!
