Ask:weight loss for an already healthy eater
2007-03-01 11:54:22hello everyone. i would really like to get into shape for summer. I am a few pounds overweight, probably around 5. the problem is that i am already a generally healthy person. i drink a lot of water everyday, probably about 5 dasanis, dont eat much junk food, when i do its usually weight watchers ice cream or something, only drink diet pop, and am pretty good with portion control. i also try to get on the treadmill a few times a week. however, i am still not losing any weight, and this is not a new change, this has been my lifestyle for about a year. so my question is, how can i get into shape if i am already doing healthy things?
for those of you who say this is my body's natural weight, its not. a few years ago i was very in shape, and then kind of stopped trying and have since gained about 5 pounds.
how can i get it back off? thanks!!

2007-03-01 12:05:55If you've been eating and exercising pretty much the same over a period of time, your body has adjusted and won't shed weight. you either need to eat a bit more or a bit less or do different exercises. small changes have big results.

2007-03-03 01:59:07If you feel your diet is ok the answer to getting back in shape is probably exercise or generally being more physically active. Try getting on the treadmill a few more times a week for 30 minutes a session. This will help to burn fat. Introduce some resistance exercise, like weight training. Whilst this won't directly burn fat it will help to build muscle. Muscle is responsible for most of the calories you burn off each day, so more muscle equals a higher metabolic rate and more calories burned at rest.
Also, be aware that muscle is heavier than fat so if you build some lean tissue and lose fat it may not show up on the scales - use the mirror instead. With only 5lbs to lose you should see a real difference fairly quickly. Best of luck!

2007-03-01 12:03:26You need the treadmill every day to every other day for at least a half hour doing a cardio workout. Depending on your age you should lose the extra weight fairly fast. The older you are the harder it is but you could try...
not eating after 7:00 p.m. and cut out the sodas - they are not good for you at all. If you eat white bread - stop. Bagels = 5 pieces of white bread so if you are into eating those - stop. You can also go on a simple cleanse which will help rid your body of toxins and maybe a little weight with it. FirstCleanse by ReNew Life is a good first time cleanse to try, you aren't running to the bathroom with it & I felt really really good afterwards.

2007-03-01 12:02:15Decrease calories or increase your exercise. Increase the intensity of the exercise or exercise longer. Introduce strength training. This will help build muscle, which burns more calories, and will tone your muscles.
