2007-10-07 13:07:54I am 19 yrs old 5Ə and need to lose two stone!
Over the past few weeks i have been changing my diet from around 3,000 cals a day to 1,500 a day. I have done this by replacing junk food with fish and brown bread ect. I am also walking up hill for 45 mins a day to the train station.
But how long will it take me to lose the weight?

2007-10-07 13:24:45You are doing great! I am super proud of you! You go girl! It's hard to say how long it will take you to lose weight without knowing your current weight. I attached a calculator that you can use that will tell you how many calories your body uses per day based on your age, height and weight. Once you figure that out, what you need to know is that you have to burn about 3500 calories to lose a pound, and that makes it very easy to figue out how long it will take you to lose the weight.
You already have a great plan going. Think about it...you're eating about a pound less every two days. That's amazing! Now I would encourage you to do some weight training, nothing very heavy to start. If you can't go to a gym, try push ups, sit ups, crunches, leg lifts, lunges and squats for about 20 min per day in addition to your walk. This will start building muscle. You may actually gain a bit because of this because muscle weighs more than fat, but muscle requires many many more claories to maintain, so the more muscle you have, the more calories your body will burn at rest. You'll also tighten up and start looking pretty hot after a while.
Also drink a lot of water, at least 16 glasses per day because your body needs a lot of water to burn fat. In chemical terms, burning fat is a hydrolysis reaction. Hydrolysis literally means water splitting. You need lots of water to split up that fat. Also, your body may be retaining water because you are not drinking enough which reduces it's ability to burn fat. Bring a bottle of water (nalgene or something so you look real athletic carrying it) wherever you go to remind yourself to drink often, and you'll see results. To lose 2 pounds a week, you have to double the deficit to 1000 calories per day. You can achieve this by eating less, exercising more or a combination of both.
