Ask:Weight loss and running
2008-06-05 10:42:41I am 19, a guy, and I run just under 2 miles (1.7 to be exact), 7 days a week, in under 15mins. I am looking to lose weight. I have cut out snacking and high fat foods.
Do you think doing this will get rid of fat?
Answer:Weight loss and running
2008-06-05 10:57:49A really good way is too change up your runs. Maybe MWF you run 3 or 4 miles at whatever pace you can. Then TTh, run your 1.7miles as fast as you can. This will keep your body from getting comfortable with the running and stop burning so many calories. Change ups are really important when trying to lose weight. Running is great a way! Just push yourself a further distance on some days, and push a faster pace on others. I really think you'll see an improvement in just 2 weeks. And definitely take at least 1 day to rest. Or if you just can't rest for 1 day, then don't run. Do another activity. Like play basketball or tennis or swim. But don't run 7 days a week.

2008-06-06 05:58:43Running is just about the best exercise you can do for burning off fat. You probably wouldn't even need to cut out snacks and high fat foods 'cos you would burn it all off anyway but its still a good idea to do that. You're very young and so your metabolism will be fast, and with all this running it will be even faster. You'll lose weight in no time.

2008-06-05 10:50:22Hmm - it will help... BUT!
You need to be panting hard for at least 30 mins per day to really get into that fat burning healthy zone.
So i suggest that after you have done your 2 mile dash, that you keep on going at a fast pace to take you past that 30 minute mark.
Also 7 days per week is not a good idea. Make it 5 days per week - 3 days, day off, 2 days, day off, etc etc. Your body needs to rest and adapt.
Another suggestion would be to mix it up a bit - do some cross country too, not just road-side or track.

2008-06-05 10:47:31Thats pretty good, but i reckon you could easily step it up a notch. You can run further, but slower, and its still good for you.
I started off running about 8 months ago and started with about 2 miles a time. Then i kept adding to it every week or so. Now I can do about 6 miles at a time.
Good luck.

2008-06-05 10:50:35Yes it will. It may be a little slower than you want but it will help. If you want to lose more then run farther/longer.
