Should I run more than 3 miles to lose weight or is 3 enough? I don't like the eliptical machine because I don't find it challenging enough.
What can I do to help me speed up my weight loss?
    Thanks!!

find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
    8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise (running) 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)
and take a multivitamin with breakfast and omega or flax oil capsules.

How long does it take you to run 3 miles on the treadmill?
Do a minimum of 30 minutes to burn fat.
Every 6 weeks, add an incline so you don't hit a plateau. It's OK to slow down, just do a minimum of 30.

Maintain a healthy diet, don't drink sodas.
Don't lose weight too quickly ( 1-3 pounds per week max ) or you'll have the risk of stretch marks ( especially as you get older ) and/or loose skin. Your body can change, but don't rush it.
Distance doesn't really matter, it's more that you go for 30+ minutes each time and are breathing reasonably hard and are tired afterwads.
