How long is "for a while"? Depending on how long it is since you last engaged in a fitness regime of any sort, it can take you at least 12 weeks to start seeing noticable results. You have to build up fitness and lean muscle mass and that takes time. Once you have built up to the point where your work intensity is enabling you burn a decent amount of calories, then you will start to achieve faster.
You can't "spot reduce" areas of your body - I wish we could - LOL. You can work on toning the muscles of a particular area more than another area.
You don't say much about how much exercise you are doing, or how healthy you are eating, but you may find the link below interesting. For a comparison for you, as a nearly 52 year old female, I work out 6 days a week - I aim to burn 10+ calories a minute - i.e. the rowing machine at a rate of 700 calories per hour, for 50 minutes 4 times a week, weights and 30 minutes cardio twice a week. I eat between 1200 and 1500 calories a day.
You just have to burn more than you eat, I'm afraid, while still eating enough to be healthy.

You need to keep at it. Make sure to not eat carbs in your last meal before bed, that'll help a ton.
Remember you're not just losing fat but putting on muscle, so don't go by the scale alone, go by how clothes fit, the clothes don't lie.

run in the morning on an empty stomach. Your burn pure fat when you do that. HAve some caffiene if you need energy. caffiene pills or plain coffee.
Also eat less, and eat atleast your body weight in protein.
