Ask:Work out-weight loss question
2006-07-01 16:46:52I am currently overweight - trying to lose 40-50 pounds. I am 5ཆ" so I do not look huge, but I do need to lose the weight. I used to swim about 10 years ago. About a month ago I started swimming again - I started at 1000 meters about 3 times a week. Now I am swimming around 1600 meters at least 4 times a week. I have modified my eating. I only eat three meals a day - no snacks. I only have something sweet once a day. I probably eat around 1500 calories a day.
My problem is that I have not lost any weight or any inches? Can someone please give me some advice. I am about to opt for a liquid diet.
Thanks

2006-07-01 17:18:22What is happing right know is that you in the freeze zone. this when you are not challaging your body in order to lose the weight. If you are over the age of 30 you might need to find something that increases the metabolize because it has slowed down. you might want to try the one a day vitamin with eccg to help with the metabolizen. also if you eat less it sets your body into starvation mode so you will not loss any weight like that try eating 2000-2500 caloried a day with eating more but less every time like the 6 small meal diet. thats been working for me. dont get me wrong i dont mean eat 6 normal meal just 6 small like 3 oz meals and as much fruit and vegetable as you can

2006-07-01 16:52:19The best way to lose weight, and the key, to keep it off, is a lifestyle change. Excercise and watching what you eat will do the trick. If you don't do this when you're finished with your diet and excercise, then the fat will come right back. So if you are really serious about losing weight, then watch your portions, watch what you eat....and do excercise. It'll be slow at first.....but keep at it. Your patienct and persistance will pay off. Best of luck to you......

2006-07-01 16:53:48The primary principal to losing weight is taking in less calories than you expend. Swimming is an "ok" excercise, but unfortuantely for people who are overweight it does not burn as many calories due to the fact that fat is more bouyant than muscle. The best excercises that you can do are running, walking, or more aerobic type excercises. Any type of excercise that you do when you are carrying your own weight is better.

2006-07-01 16:51:59Sometimes making changes in your lifestyle increases your health level without showing immediately. You might need to try a more drastic diet change, and then slowly add in more normal foods. I went on a "no flower, no sugar" diet and lost 10 or 15 pounds pretty quickly. I slowly started adding breads and sugars back in, without putting the weight back on. If you want to try this diet, just read labels. No corn syrup, sugar, or flowers, but sugar substitutes and rice are fine. Good luck!

2006-07-04 19:21:44Perhaps swimming isn't strenuous for your body, I usually didn't lose much weight, even when I was swimming 4000 or 5000 5 times a week. Try switching to running or biking instead.
the basic rules to losing weight are no soda, no fast food, lots of chicken, fish, fresh (not canned that???s bad) fruits and vegies, whole wheat stuff, yogurt. Not so many cakes and donuts and cookies. Basic common sense for eating, you just need to enforce it. Get all the bad stuff out of the house right away, just toss it or give it away while your still motivated. No alcohol and no smoking if that applies. Lots of water, 3-4 liters a day, not all at once, but spread it out. Its really easy to down a liter or two while your watching tv or on the computer. Also drink some after you eat the bigger meals of the day, it helps your body pick out the nutrients in food when your food is more spread apart. Don???t think that sports drinks can replace water, the only time you need to drink them right after a workout, besides that just stick with water. These rules may be hard to adapt to at first so start with cutting out the things you know you can live without. Then work from there. Remember these are perfect eating habits, it can take you a while to work into it. If you know you can???t live without your one treat a day, don???t fight it by trying to eat something else, just eat it and make sure that???s the only one you cheat on a day. Otherwise you???ll get depressed and quit. Another important point is getting the right amount of sleep every night. You need 8-9 hours of sleep each night for your body to function correctly. This is an important factor of losing weight. Set up a routine for yourself and go to bed at about the same time each night.
A cheap investment is a balance ball, it works you stomach while your just sitting on it, like at your computer and its great for posture. There are hundreds of exercises you can use it for for your entire body. I can give you some ideas if you want, just email me. Also for more info on the benefits of water go to www.watercure.com Good Luck! Honestly if you need anything else don't hesitate to IM me, krista_girl86 even if you don't pick me as best answer, i'd be happy to help. Also check out the website for the tv show The Biggest Loser on NBC. There are many, many helpful facts on there.

2006-07-01 17:57:23I have lost 33lbs in 3 months by walking/running off 1000 calories every day but I take Sunday off. Here's a sample of what I eat in a day: Breakfast: 2 slices of Sara Lee Delightful bread as toast with butter and reduced fat peanut butter and a glass of Light Minute Maid OJ Lunch: 1/2 cup of Egg Beaters and some cottage cheese or fruit Dinner: Grilled Chicken breast with steamed veggies and 1/2 cup of brown rice or a salad or a South Beach Diet dinner. For a snack I have Light Ruffles with salsa (I know its odd, but the quite making baked Tostitos) or a 100 cal pack. Then I usually have 1/2 c - 1 c of Bryers no suger added fat free neopolitan ice cream with some strawberries. All of this has really done the trick for me. I look amazing now.
