2007-03-13 06:50:29Over 2 years, I lost 80 lbs and was faced with alot of emotional issues. Some were related to food....a feeling of "loss" almost for some of my old food related habits. For example, I used to meet with my friends at restaurants and we would have lots of food and fun...but I opted out of that to avoid temptation.
I also had issues with anxiety. I hated going to public places for fear of bumping into someone I hadn't seen in a while and them making a scene "OHHH you look so great...what did you do???" Most people would think that that feels nice to hear, but after a while, it was almost embarrassing.
And now I am dealing with the emotional issues of maintaining my weight. I am afraid of putting weight back on...which stresses me out...which I turn to food to cure.
My advise to you is to find support through someone in a similar situation, and make sure you are doing the weight loss for yourself. Keeping a journal ( not just a food journal) of how you are feeling can be helpful too.
Don't let a little downfall get you discouraged and off course. Be sure to allow yourself some room to enjoy your favorite goodies ....just dont' go overboard.
Be sure to focus on the great things that weight loss will bring you...better health, energy and the opportunity to help someone else in your shoes.
Good luck with your weight loss journey!

2007-03-13 06:08:37i know its hard to feel positive all the time when you are losing weight. just focus on how you will feel and what you will look like when you get to your goal! reward yourself for making achievements (no, not with food!) ie lose 10 pounds buy yourself something you want... keeping positive is the key to weight loss!!! YOU CAN DO IT! YOUR WORTH IT!

2007-03-13 06:11:31Create small, achievable goals:
"Today I will walk for 30 minutes"
"This week I will eat breakfast every day"
"This month I will lose 4 pounds"
Write them down and look at them all the time. Babysteps. You can also read the book "Body Clutter" by Marla Cilley, aka the Flylady.

2007-03-13 06:11:54I think the hardest part is dealing with the fact that you dont always see the changes. Often its because you are too close (constant monitoring of weight, trying on those clothes that dont fit)will not help. the best way to overcome these obsticles is to enjoy what you are doing. Take time to prepare your food and make it look and taste nice...even if it isnt the absolute best diet possible. this way you are more likely to stick to it. try not to look at it as weight loss. think of the lifestyle change and accept it as that.

2007-03-13 06:17:14Focus on the good you are doing for your body throughout the process. Use your progress so far as a basis for feeling GOOD about yourself NOW. Wear nice clothes, do your makeup, try to look good and be happy with your body the way it is. You'll find that all this positive energy and belief in yourself will only propel you and motivate you to keep going. The best news you can remember to help you get through it is that you WILL lose weight and look the way you want if you keep it up and believe that you deserve to look the way you want.

2007-03-13 06:11:33What i do is look at the mirror naked right before you're tempted to give up because you're not seeing a changes in weight.
This helps to remember why u started dieting in the first place.
Just remember the first 2 weeks you rarely see a change in weight because your body is getting used to the change in eating and exercise that has been added, then 2 weeks comes around all of a sudden you're wondering "wow the weight just melted off". before you knw it a couple pounds every few days seems to be going down on the scale or your clothes feel exceptionally looser.
That's the problem with some dieters, if they don't see results the first week or so they give up.
The ones that stick to it get a happy shock when the 2 week period begins and they see rapid weightloss , the body started to react to change in lifestyle, always works for me.
Just remember to do this for you and know one else.
keep a diary of why you want to lose the weight and read it anytime you feel your gonna slip up.
Also when you start noticing weightloss write down how great you felt at that moment on the scale, and when you want to give up go back and read it and tell yourself you want to keep that feeling long.
Nothing taste sweeter than Thin or feeling more healthy!
Say to yourself That one piece of (insert favorite junk food) will set me back a week of dieting NOT WORTH IT!
I wish you well i lost 25 pounds since mid-january good luck
